SETIP calls on all workers in the sector to participate massively in the rally on Friday, March 27 at 18:30, at Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The developments we are experiencing leave no room for complacency. Our country’s involvement in imperialist rivalries and war plans is deepening, turning our people into a potential target of retaliation for interests that have nothing to do with our needs. Workers have nothing to gain from these plans—only new burdens, dangers, and intensified exploitation.
Prices are soaring and working conditions are worsening. The cost of energy for workers has already skyrocketed, with major increases in fuel and electricity prices. The rising cost of basic food products—such as dairy, meat, and fruit—further aggravated by increased agricultural and livestock production costs, is pushing us to desperation. We work intensively, without health and safety measures, with 13-hour shifts, and without collective labor agreements. From this exploitation come the funds for armaments, frigates, and Patriot systems, which supposedly “protect” the country but are sent on imperialist missions abroad. Our lives are degraded to serve the profits of the few and the geopolitical ambitions of the powerful. And now they want us to pay the bill for war involvement and anti-people policies.
We must have no trust in the policy that drags the country deeper into dangerous developments. We must not accept the logic that workers should make sacrifices for foreign interests. Government announcements are a provocation, they do not give, they take, and try to sugarcoat it. The government is complicit, supporting and covering for those responsible. War involvement and the business interests of corporate groups go hand in hand. This is also evident in our sector, where companies and groups are eager to profit from war-related projects and the funds of the European Defence Fund.
Now is the time to give our own response!
We must strengthen the struggle in every workplace. Sound the alarm! No worker should remain a spectator. We must take matters into our own hands through our unions, both company-level and sectoral, with organization and collective action, with determination and mass participation! We must send a message to the ND government that it has no legitimacy to support the slaughter of other peoples and drag our own into it. That we won’t pay for their plans, not through taxes, not through rising prices, not through our labor. No participation in war plans means, no support for those waging the war in any way, that our knowledge and labor must not be used for the barbaric war plans of those directly or indirectly involved. For this reason, we denounce employers in the sector OTE, Unisystems, Nokia, Space, etc. who involve workers in war-related projects for their profits.
We demand:
- No involvement of Greece in wars and imperialist plans
- All Greek military forces to return from abroad
- All foreign military bases in the country to be closed
- Money for wages, healthcare, and education—not for armaments and wars
- Protection of workers’ lives and rights
We will not become cannon fodder.
We will not pay for their crisis and their wars.
