Colleagues of  TELEPERFORMANCE,

The attack against our rights by the Greek government, the IMF and the capitalist class is unending. The latest reactionary reforms of the EU/IMF memorandum are really just bringing into effect what for decades now the plutocracy, the EU, and the two dominant Greek parties PASOK and Nea Dimokratia have been aiming for. The memorandum comes to prove that their purpose was and is to smash all of the working class’s rights and obtentions in order to grow the profits of the plutocracy.

The intentions of the government but also the EU and the IMF are to lower wages so that the capitalist class can “buy” cheaper labour and to break all collective wage agreements so that “negotiations” of the contracts signed between employers end employees be on individual grounds as opposed to collective ones, thus breaking the only power the working class has which is its unity and collectivity. On the other hand prices are rising mainly through the VAT (from 11% to 23%) but also the price of electricity has shot up and is expected to rise even more. Flexible forms of work are being promoted (part-time, partial employment, fixed term contracts etc.), the unemployment benefit is being reduced all the while the unemployment rates are sky high. Price lists have been added to the polyclinics of the public hospitals and the malfeasant reforms of the national insurance system have still not come to an end. At the same time the audacity of the employers in telecommunications, with the political cover of the government and with the tolerance of the Greek General Confederation of Labour (GSEE), the employer’s syndicalism, has become outrageous. Specifically here at Teleperformance with the excuse of the loss of projects (ON Telecomes, Marfin bank) they are threatening with lay-offs and also taking advantage of the fixed term contracts dismissing workers whose contracts have expired without it of course being considered a lay-off. The situation is even worse for immigrant workers who in fear of loosing their job, and papers for staying in Greece, live under constant fear.

Workers have two choices, either we submit to penury or we struggle for the wealth that we, the working class, produce. For this becoming member of the Syndicate is essential.

The Syndicate committee of Teleperformance has already given many battles to inform fellow workers, payments denied by the employers to be payed and even force the employers to take back unfair lay-offs.
The attack against our rights is not an attack against Greek workers only; it is an attack against our class, against all the workers without regard to the nationality of the worker. Unfortunately foreign colleagues are more easily victimized and taken advantage of by their employers as they do not know the language and their rights in Greece.

We demand:
– No more lay-offs
– That the Slavery of “renting” workers through outsourcing (ISS, Randstad etc).
– That all fixed term contracts be amended to indefinite term employment contracts.
